Those receiving income support, job seekers allowance and tax credits etc., assessed benefits on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate. Those suffering from diabetes or glaucoma. The registered blind or partially sighted and those issued with complex lens vouchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A full list of exemptions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re entitled to a free NHS sight test if you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>are under 16<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are 60 or over<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are registered as partially sighted or blind<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are 40 or over and your mother, father, sibling or child has been diagnosed with glaucoma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have been advised by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) that you\u2019re at risk of glaucoma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are a prisoner on leave from prison<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher \u2013 your optician can advise you about your entitlement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re also entitled if you or your partner \u2013 including civil partner \u2013 receive, or you\u2019re under the age of 20 and the dependant of someone receiving:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Income Support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income-related Employment and Support Allowance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income-based Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pension Credit Guarantee Credit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/nhs-services\/help-with-health-costs\/help-with-health-costs-for-people-getting-universal-credit\/\">Universal Credit and meet the criteria<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re entitled to or named on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate (if you do not have a certificate, you can show your award notice), you qualify if you get Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits with a disability element (or both), and have income for tax credit purposes of \u00a315,276 or less<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) may also get help with the cost of a private sight test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How often you can have a sight test that is paid for by the NHS will vary due to any conditions that you have.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should a prescription be necessary benefit claimants and HC holders, Children and those needing complex lenses will be given a voucher to help towards the cost of spectacles or contact lenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scotland<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All sight tests are free for those living in Scotland. The voucher system is the same as in England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Voucher values<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are set each year reflecting the complexity of the lens power and design.
