{"id":42248,"date":"2025-05-14T11:44:54","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T11:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mylocaloptician.com\/?page_id=42248"},"modified":"2025-05-21T15:18:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T15:18:01","slug":"special-treatments-for-better-vision","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bedotdev.com\/mylocaloptician\/eye-health\/what-is-an-eye-examination\/special-treatments-for-better-vision\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Treatments for Better Vision"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some Optometrists offer a range of specialist treatments and procedures and we are hoping that those who are registered to provide these extra services will inform us, so we can add their functions to our local database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In short these are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Orthokeratology known more commonly as Ortho-K<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ortho-K is a non-surgical process which reshapes (flattens) the cornea of the eye using contact lenses. The contact lens worn over night flattens the cornea reducing the focusing power of the eye. If the amount of corneal flattening is accurately controlled, it is possible to bring the eye into correct focus and compensate for myopia (short sightedness), leaving the contact lens to be removed during the day and the distance vision near perfect. The corneas flexes back over the day ready to wear the lens again during sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sports Vision<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some specialise in sports vision accessories as well as specialist prescriptions for certain sports or hobbies. Click to view our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mylocaloptician.co.uk\/index.asp?id=120&amp;page=42\">sports vision page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Orthoptics<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The treatment of squints, muscle failure and diplopia (double vision) is mainly carried out in secondary care, but there are Optometrists specializing in muscle training and treatments for lazy eyes. (amblyopia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Behavioural Optometry<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This field of Optometry is particularly interested in\u00a0dyslexia\u00a0and childhood development issues. Special colour filters are used to help children overcome\u00a0dyslexia.
