Business Advisers – Due to further funding being released, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is looking for additional knowledgeable and driven local Business Advisers to join our successful and well-established New Anglia Growth Hub team. Successful candidates would have a particular focus on providing grants and business support to growing businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk, together with assisting businesses to meet governmental and local net zero carbon reduction targets.

Six roles are currently available, initially funded by the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy and/or the European Regional Development Fund.

Our Business Advisers are responsible for the smooth and consistent delivery of quality business support and grants to local business in Norfolk and Suffolk, and so a knowledge of the local business landscape is a must. You will be assessing the growth potential and needs of new and established businesses as well as ways of reducing their carbon footprint. By raising awareness of the support on offer and identifying ways to support business, you will be helping local businesses to achieve their potential.

These roles will help businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk to make a fundamental shift in how they work and so a knowledge of energy and carbon reduction opportunities would be advantageous, although full training on this will be given to the right candidate.

As a Business Adviser key responsibilities are:

  • Identify a target list of local businesses with growth potential, as well as those reducing their carbon footprint, using a range of data sources
  • Arrange and undertake face-to-face and virtual meetings with businesses in order to undertake diagnostics, identifying their needs and potential grant/carbon reduction opportunities and stimulating growth plans for further contact and continued support
  • As appropriate, help clients align their policies and processes to national Net Zero legislation, as well as local planning policy, helping them understand what it means for them, and how to ensure that current and future projects meet these objectives
  • Attend a wide range of networking events and exhibitions across Norfolk and Suffolk to identify leads and raise awareness of New Anglia Growth Hub
  • Accurately and promptly document each business engagement and agreed actions and provide relevant referrals to national or local business support providers
  • Collect robust data, prepare of progress updates and monitor reports as required

We are looking for passionate, experienced, and professional Business Adviser with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to understand the specific needs of a wide range of businesses and help them to identify support and grant opportunities. A knowledge of the local business landscape is a must, along with experience of high-level business engagement, networking, and business management.

You will be able to work with minimum supervision, predominantly from home, and with a high degree of self-motivation, as well as being able to work toward shared objectives. In return you will have the opportunity shape and develop your skills within this exciting role, in a friendly, flexible and proactive office environment.

This role involves travel across Norfolk and Suffolk so the candidate must have a full driving licence and transport for business use.

Full time and homebased with offices in Ipswich/Norwich and with travel across Norfolk and Suffolk. The roles are for a fixed term. Initially until 31 March 2022, and with anticipated extension until 30 June 2023. All extensions are subject to additional pending funding approval.
