The new Breadsall CofE Primary School has been handed over to Derbyshire County Council following the successful completion of construction work.

The old school was originally located on Moor Road but has relocated to a larger purpose-built site on Brookside Road. The new buildings, designed by Concertus Design and Property Consultants, will also greatly decrease energy consumption via a photovoltaic system, helping the school to be more cost-effective and resource-efficient by lowering Co2 emissions.

The new £5.5 million 120-space primary school consists of two new classrooms for the juniors, as well as classrooms for reception and infants. There is a kitchen, school hall, specialist group rooms, and library – all of which are modern and bring the school in line with current guidelines. The project, funded by Derbyshire County Council, also includes a larger hard play area, resurfaced games courts, a playing field and a forest schools’ area to ensure pupils have access to high quality outdoor facilities.

Councillor Alex Dale, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education said: “It’s wonderful to see the handover of the new building for the Breadsall school community. The project has been managed by our development team and is an integral part of our plan to give children in Derbyshire the best start in life. I hope the pupils, teachers and wider school community enjoy the new space for many years to come.”

Paul Cockayne, Associate Director at Concertus Design and Property Consultants said: “We are thrilled to have worked alongside Derbyshire County Council and B+K Building Services on the new primary school in Breadsall. This new setting not only has drastically improved facilities for current and future pupils to get the most out of their education journey, but the school is also much more energy efficient which is great for Breadsall and the surrounding area.”
